چکیده

This article presents an experimental and numerical investigation of Mode-I fracture control in aerospace grade unidirectional laminated composites (AS4/914) using the smart material approach. The P1 type macro fiber (MFC) actuators are selected for current research because their higher free strain, high mechanical flexibility, good blocking force. opening mode (Mode-I) interlaminar tests have been carried out on DCB specimens having surface bonded MFC actuator patches under application electric voltage within a range 0–1500 V. These performed pre-cracked (PC) non (NPC) double cantilever beam specimens. modified pin force model has adopted evaluation actuation forces actuators. XIGA-CZM based formulation is utilized modeling electromechanical loading conditions. significant over energy peak operating voltage. combination with shows agreement observations.

Mode I Failure of Laminated Polymeric Composites

A mechanical model for the prediction of mode I delamination failure of a laminated double cantilever beam (DCB) type specimen is presented. The volume of material ahead of the crack tip that experiences high stresses due to the presence of the crack tip was replaced by a nonlinear elastic spring foundation. The volume undergoing global deformation due to the external loading was replaced by a ...

Mode I Interlaminar Fracture Toughness of Unidirectional Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Matrix Composites

1.1 This test method describes the determination of the opening Mode I interlaminar fracture toughness, GIc, of continuous fiber-reinforced composite materials using the double cantilever beam (DCB) specimen (Fig. 1). 1.2 This test method is limited to use with composites consisting of unidirectional carbon fiber and glass fiber tape laminates with brittle and tough single-phase polymer matrice...

Prediction of Mode II of Fracture Toughness in Laminate Composites

In this paper, effects of ply orientation of adjacent plies with (ϕ//θ) interfaces on mode II critical strain energy release rate (fracture toughness) of multidirectional (MD) laminate has been studied. Ply orientation of adjacent plies is one of the most important parameters affects the mode II critical strain energy release rate () in the initiation of the delamination. To  study this paramet...

Failure Mode Predictions in the Compressive Response of Laminated Composites

Of interest in this paper are failure mode interactions when laminated fiber reinforced composites are subjected to compressive loading. Delamination, fiber kink-banding and their interactions are seen to dominate the failure response. This interaction is captured through a computational model that includes interface elements to capture delamination, and, geometric and material nonlinearity to ...

Numerical Determination of Delamination Onset in Laminated Symmetric DCB Specimen

In this study, a novel numerical method is proposed for determination of mode-I interlaminar fracture toughness, GIc, in multi-directional (MD) double cantilever beam (DCB) specimens using fracture properties of unidirectional DCB specimens. Two factors, β and Dc are defined to minimize the undesirable effects on strain energy release rate. β describes the difference between maximum and average...
